Disappointing again not to see Gail(Hanlon) McGettigan be inducted to the SJRR Hall of Fame! Rowed 25 Yrs., 2nd. Lady Coxwain on Pond for years before any other Female! (after Gert Reardigan in 1971, as coxswain of NFLD. STEAMSHIPS JUNIOR LADIIES TEAM REWROTE THE RECORD BOOK IN PLACENTIA AND HAD THE FASTEST TIME OF THE DAY EVEN BETTERING THE SENIORS LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP TIME.. Rower(Sports Person of the Year 1974) -- Coxed /Undefeated Juvenile/Midget/Novice Boys(Scademia),Novice/Midget Juvenile Girls -Diesel Injection)-- 6 Yrs.all Three Regattas(St.John's, Hr. Grace, Placentia)-Coxed Vector Aerospace Winners(Novice) Winners(2000)--Started Ladies Master's Rowing--1996(Mothers of her Young Crews)--Won as Rower(Stroke) MUN Breezeway Ladies Championship 1970; Was Presented twice for ; Worthy Candidate as anyone!! Startling, why she was never considered!!! As an employee of the eastern school district entered a team of teachers and encouraged and trained many students to the sport of rowing. Assisted, coached novice Female/Male Coxswains. Veteran Rowers/Committee Members KNOW all this- Nomination forms had been presented in the past.as a Rower, Builder and a Coxswain .Rowed Stroke, every other Position in Boat, and Coxed Mens, Womens, Novice, Midget, Juvenile Crews for Years! To say I am prejudiced , goes without saying,(being her Husband); Gail has coxed many young rowers who became future champions. Her time, dedication and love of the sport and her many hours spent on the pond , often coxing 4 teams as well as rowing should not be left unnoticed. Congrats to the other nominees. Tks for the opportunity to express my opinion. Cheers/ Dan McGettigan Rower/coxswain/coach -- -r
