Power a workhorse for Storm

Brent Power had a whale of a game as the H.J. Bartlett Electric Storm got past Holy Cross Trinity Pub 14-11 in St. John’s Molson senior baseball action Tuesday night at St. Pat’s Ball Park.

Power (11R, 8H, 11W, 2K) tossed 154 pitches in a complete-game effort, while helping his own cause by scoring three times and driving in three more. His brother Jared and Mike Dyke were both three-for-five.

Gerry Stone (3IP, 9R, 10H) started and took the loss for the Crusaders with Ryan Tapper (4IP, 5R, 7H, 2W, 1K) pitching in relief.

Steve Crouse plated a pair and collected three RBI for the losers.

In another game at Smallwood Park in Mount Pearl, Troy Croft hit a three-run homer and Keith Spurrell pitched as Roebothan McKay Marshall Gonzaga blanked the Canada Car Care Knights 12-0.


Raiders rally to beat Shammies

Down 6-3, the Raiders rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to an 8-6 win over the Shamrocks in St. John’s Molson intermediate baseball play at St. Pat’s Ball Park Tuesday night.

Jamie Tobin (6IP, 6R, 6H, 4W, 3K) tossed the win, with Brandon Jackson (4.2IP, 8R, 10H, 6W) striking out 10 in a losing cause.

Matt Lush was three-for-three for the winners, while the Shammies’ Brad Porter hit a pair of triples.

Results from the intermediate game at Smallwood Park in Mount Pearl between the Knights and Gonzaga was not reported.


Ezekiel provides good relief fot Bulldogs

Reliever Blair Ezekiel (1W, 9K) delivered four innings of near-perfect pitching and picked up the win as the Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs downed the Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians 6-1 as the Molson St. John’s senior softball resumed play Tuesday evening after a weekend off.

At Lions Park, Wayne Bruce (3IP, 1R, 1H, 2W, 1K) started for the Bulldogs whose Shane Boland hit a two-run home run. Ezekiel also drove in three runs.

Colin Walsh (3IP, 2R, 2H, 2W, 1K) took the loss with Mark Power (4IP, 4R, 4H, 2W, 4K) tossing in relief. Daniel Dalton put the junior team’s only run on the board with a solo homer.

NL Plumbing Hitmen 7, Don Cherry’s St. John's 2

Winner Robbie Greene (7IP, 2R, 8H, 5W) fanned a dozen and Brad Ezekiel drove in two and scored twice for the Hitmen.

Justin Gill had a solo homer.

Ward Gosse (6IP, 5R, 9H, 2W, 9K) took the loss. Mike Noftall (2R, 2H, 1K) pitched an inning in relief.


Fitzpatrick attending Gary Roberts-led camp

Evan Fitzpatrick, a former resident of St. John’s will be among 42 players attending the invite-only NHLPA Allstate All Canadians camp next week in Mississauga, Ont.

Fitzpatrick played in the St. John’s Caps Minor Hockey Association before moving to Nova Scotia last fall to attend the Newbridge Academy and train with goaltending coach Brad MacCharles.

The camp, led by 21-year veteran Gary Roberts, is hosted by NHL players such as the Philadelphia Flyers’s Claude Giroux and the Ottawa Senators’ Toronto Maple Leafs. Participants in the five-day camp will get instruction on nutrition, fitness, on-ice training and mental skills.
