Greene leaves 3Cheers batters feeling blue

Robbie Greene (7IP, 4R, 6H, 1W) struck out a dozen batters  and Justin Gill hit a two-run homer and scored three times to lead the NL Plumbing Hitmen to a 7-4 win over 3 Cheers Bud Light in Molson St. John’s senior softball Thursday night.

At Lions Park, Sheldon Keough scored drove  in three runs and Shawn Hefferan put two runs on the board for the winners.

For 3 Cheers, Kyle Ezekiel was responsible for two runs — he hit a solo home run and an RBI double.

Nick Pittman (9IP, 7R, 9H, 1W, 4K) gets the loss.

Kelly's Pub Junior Canadians 5, Don Cherry's St. John's 3

Mark Power (4IP, 2R, 4H, 2W, 7K) picked up the win in relief of starter Colin Walsh (3IP, 1R, 3H, 1W, 7K).

Jeff Conway made his only hit of the game count with a three-run jack. Jeremy O’Reilly has solo home bomb and an double to drive in one.

Donny King (4IP, 4R, 6H, 0W, 4K) took the loss with Ward Gosse (3IP, 1R, 3H, 1W, 4K) cleaning up.

Geoff Evely drove in two runs for Don Cherry’s.

Vikings’ Hynes one-hits Holy Cross

Scott Hynes (5IP) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts as Gonzaga blanked Holy Cross 12-0 in St. John’s Molson intermediate baseball Thursday evening.

At St. Pat’s Ball Park, Steve Adams and Noah Gullage had three RBI apiece to pace the Vikings, who put the game away with three runs in the fifth, enacting the league’s 10-run mercy rule.

Elliot Phillips (3IP, 4K) gave up nine runs on nine hits and a pair of walks in the loss. Doug Skirving (2IP, 3H, 4W, 3K) surrendered three more runs in relief.

Kurt Vaters had the only hit against Hynes.

In a game at Smallwood Field in Mount Pearl, Nick Rose picked up the win and Dylan Moss was two-for-four as the Canada Car Care Knights got past the Ellsworth Group Feildians 7-2.

Andrew Wright took the loss.


Holy Cross hangs on to beat U16 team

Laura Breen scored twice (12 and 31 minutes) and C.B.S. Holy Cross Kirby Group withstood a late surge in a 5-3 win over the St. John’s Under-16 side in Breen’s Jubilee Trophy senior women’s soccer Thursday night at Topsail Field.

Kiley Delong (3’), Malorie Harris (15’) and Alex Hayward (65’) also scored for the Crusaders.

Anna Aucoin (70’, 76’) and Jennifer Bent (79’) got the under-16 side on the board in the second half.


Four from Pearlgate at Hershey North American meet

Four athletes from the Pearlgate Track and Field Club will compete in the North American Final Meet in Hershey, PA as part for of the Hershey Track and Field Games.

Levin Moulten, 13, will compete in the 1,600-metre run, while 12-year-old Deepal Deshpande is running in the 100m sprint.

Two athletes, 14-year-old Chantal Barnes and 11-year-old Camryn Bonia, will run the 800m.
