Toronto (CP) Two Newfoundlanders have been selected to play for Canada in Australia next month at the first leg of the 2013-2014 IRB Sevens World Series.
Ciaran Hearn from Conception Bay South and St. John’s native Patrick Parfrey will compete for Canada in a group that includes Fiji, Portugal and Wales at the Gold Coast Sevens on Oct. 12-13.

Hearn has played for Canada’s sevens for years, while it’s Parfrey’s debut on the World Series circuit. Both Hearn and Parfrey played for The Rock this season in the Canadian Rugby Championship (CRC) league which completed its 2013 season Saturday.

Meanwhile, New Brunswick native Chauncey O’Toole, who has played for The Rock, is unable to travel with the national team due to personal commitments.

Nathan Hirayama will captain an undermanned Canada in Australia next month at the first leg of the 2013-2014 IRB Sevens World Series.

Canada is in a group with Fiji, Portugal and Wales at the Gold Coast Sevens.
