MUN v-ballers about to see their first action at the Field House this season
The Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s and men’s volleyball teams play their Atlantic University Sport (AUS) home-openers this weekend at the Field House.
The Lady Hawks will play host to the University of Moncton Aigles Bleues 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday, while the MUN men take on Dalhousie Tigers 1 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Saturday,
The MUN women are coming off a trip to Fredericton where they went winless in the first interlock tournament against Quebec teams.
Sophomore Jill Snow, from Bishop’s Falls was an important part of the Memorial attack in the opening weekend. The Sea-Hawks lineup has also been bolstered by the addition of Kirsten Sorensen, a fourth-year setter, who transferred to Memorial this season after playing collegiately in Alberta.
Angela Peddle, Sam March and Lauren Miller will also be key members of MUN’s lineup. Other roster players include Catherine Ducey, Alexandria Jackson, Adrienne Penney, Rebecca Statchuk, Leah White, Gillian Ricketts and Kayla Butler
The team is coached by Bill Thistle.
Moncton went 1-3 at the interlock tourney. Senior left side Joline Richard was a focal point of their attack with 50 attacks in the four games.
The Sea-Hawks and Aigles Bleues last met in a five-set AUS quarterfinal at the Field House that Memorial won 3-2.
The MUN men are also coming off a winless trip at an interlock tourney in Halifax. The team features a number of new faces vying for a larger role in head coach Luke Harris’ lineup.
Dalhousie comes into this weekend after going 3-0 at the interlock tournament, where outside hitter Kristen O’Brien led Dalhousie’s attack with four kills per set. Rookie Tiger Nathan Baker is from Clarenville.
MUN men’s lineup includes Cohen Chaulk, Lucas Champagne, Kendal Schmidt, Sam Burt, Nick Hayes, Patrick Cameron, Brandon Randell, Josh Ennis, Brian Slaney, Blake Power, Liam Power, Alex Jurgenliemk, Alex Dodds, Tyler Rowsell, Nathan Tilley, Jordan Murray, Kevin Delahunt and Cody Harvey.
