A pair of wrestlers were selected this week’s Subway Memorial University athletes of the week.

Myfanwy Price, a third-year Engineering student, and Ian James, a Pre Biochemistry student, earned the honours at the Yok Open tournament in Toronto this past weekend.

Price from the town of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, won a gold medal with a 9-2 win over the University of Toronto’s Gracie Bannerman, the gold medalist for both the Concordia Open and McMaster Invitational.

Price displayed tremendous skill, conceding just two points throughout her unbeaten weekend in the 82kg category.

Janes, from Mount Pearl, got the male athlete of the week nod for his silver medal performance in the 72kg weight class at the York Open.

Wrestling for gold against Greg Pierzchala from York, Janes lost a tough match 7-1 and earned runner-up honours in the field of eight wrestlers.

Janes won his first two matches 14-6 and 11-7.
