Avalon East Senior Hockey League: Caul’s scores hat trick, game-winner as Caps beat Blues in OT

Jon Caul scored three goals, including the overtime winner, as the St. John’s Toyota Plaza Caps defeated the Bell Island Family Drug Mart Blues 5-4 in Avalon East Senior Hockey League play Sunday night at Rogers Bussey Arena.

Brandon Fewer and Jacob Pitcher had the other goals for the Caps.

David Byrne scored twice for Bell Island. Ryan Power and Terry Crewe each scored once.

Meanwhile, the game scheduled between Southern Shore and Northeast at Southern Shore Arena Sunday was postponed due to the pending snow storm.

St. John’s outshot Bell Island 44-23.

Kyle Downer was in net for St. John’s, while Evan Giles guarded the Bell Island goal.

Southern Shore 7, Bell Island 6 (Saturday)

At Msgr. Bartlett Memorial Arena, Andrew Gale s cored four goals and set up two others to pace the Southern Shore Pugliesvich Breakers over the Blues.

Darryl Swain had the other three goals for the Breakers who outshot the Blues 36-33.

Colin Shaw scored twice for Bell Island. Singles came from Evan Kent, Daniel Roberts and Norm King.

Northeast 7, St. John’s 4 (Friday)

At Jack Byrne Arena, the Eagles got two goals and two assists from Daniel Cadigan to beat the Caps.

Matthew Oates, Tyler Walsh, James Cadigan, Matt Roche and Andrew Temple each scored once for the winners.

Ryan Whiffen, Shane Sullivan, Cody Squires and Matt Fewer had the goals for the Caps.

The Eagles outshot the Caps 38-30.
