The Winnipeg Jets will soon need a roster spot and on Wednesday they made preparations by returning forward John Albert to the AHL St. John’s IceCaps.
Defenceman Zach Bogosian was still officially on the Jets’ injured reserve Wednesday, but has been practising with the team. There is a possibility he could come off the IR prior to Winnipeg’s next game, Friday at home against the Florida Panthers.
In addition, forward Anthony Peluso has just one game remaining in a three-game NHL suspension for a boarding major last weekend.
The 24-year-old Albert was called up from St. John’s at the start of this month and scored in his first NHL game against the New York Rangers. It was also the game in which he would see the most ice time, almost eight-and-a-half minutes. After that, he didn’t play more than six minutes in a game, including Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to the Sabres in Buffalo when he was on the ice for seven shifts while playing on a line with Eric O’Dell, who was making his NHL debut after being recalled from the IceCaps the day before.
Albert has three goals and eight points in 23 games for St. John’s, which doesn’t play again until a week from today.
