The St. John's IceCaps recalled goaltender Michael Hutchinson from the ECHL's Ontario (Calif.), Reign on Monday.
Hutchinson was recalled from the Ontario Reign, while rookie Jussi Olkinuora, who has been with the IceCaps all season, was sent to the ECHL club.
At the time of his recall, Hutchinson, a 23-year-old native of Barrie, Ont., led the ECHL with 22 wins and his 2.08 goals against average was third-best in the league.
He was the league’s most recent goaltender of the week — the second time he’s won the award this season — after posting four wins, including a shutout. He made 104 total stops.
It’s not Hutchinson’s first stint with the IceCaps. He started against the Toronto Marlies last month at Ricoh Coliseum, and allowed three goals on 20 shots in a 3-2 loss.
Signed by the Winnipeg Jets last summer, Hutchinson was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the third round, 77th overall, in 2008.
He played last season for the Providence Bruins, going 13-13-3 with a 2.30 GAA and .914 save percentage.
Olkinuora is a 23-year-old rookie from Finland who was 4-3-1 this season with the IceCaps. He had a 3.16 GAA and .893 save percentage.
Signed to a free agent contract by the Jets, Olkinuora played the past seasons with the University of Denver.
