Jewer leads Celtics to shootout win over Stars in junior hockey

Brandon Jewer had the lone goal in the shootout as the BK Services Celtics downed the Moorfrost C.B.N. Stars 8-7 in Penney Kia St. John’s Junior Hockey League action at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay on Sunday.

Chris Amminson had four goals in regulation for the winners, while Jewer, with two, and Kory Waterman also scored for the Celtics.

Jonathan Tozer and Devin Whalen each had two goals for the Stars, with single markers for C.B.N. being produced by Evan Pittman, Zach Laing and Cody Batten, who added two assists.

The Jungle Jim’s players of the game were Amminson of the Celtics and Tozer of the Stars.

Results from a game at the Glacier between the Trinity-Placentia I.J. Smith Home Building Centre Flyers and the Mount Pearl Mark’s Dakota Wild were not available before the Telegram’s press deadline on Sunday night.

 

Caps 7, Renegades 1 (Saturday)

The Hickman Automotive Group St. John's Caps scored six unanswered third-period goals to beat the Assante Wealth Management CBR Renegades 7-1 at Twin Rinks.

The C&W Offshore Southern Shore Jr Breakers made it two wins in as many days by edging the first-place Roebothan McKay & Marshall Avalon Capitals at the Goulds arena.

Breakers 2, Caps 1 (Friday)

Plenty of shots in this one at the Southern Shore Arena — 48 for the Breakers and 46 for the Caps — but few goals, thanks to the work of netminders Josh Carey of Southern Shore and Coady Edwards of St. John’s.

Mitchell Martin scored the game-winner for the Breakers, at 6:06 of the third, less than 30 seconds after Garrett Murphy had put the Caps on the board.

Stars 4, Wild 3 OT (Friday)

At the Bay Arena, Brandon Parrott’s second goal of the game, 3:23 into the extra session was the difference for C.B.N., which forced overtime when Michael Andrews scored on a power play with 45 seconds left in regulation
