Sea-Hawks volleyball teams endure another winless weekend

Rookie Gavin Dyke from Mount Pearl won five gold medals at the Dalhousie University Invitational Swim Meet during the weekend in Halifax, N.S.
Dyke earned first place finishes in the 50, 100 and 200-metre freestyle events. He also finished atop the podium in the 200 and 400-metre individual medley. He was also part of MUN’s relay team that finished third in the 200-metre medley relay. The rest of the team included Ryan George, Bandon McKay and Leo Froude.
Dyke’s performance helped MUN men finish third overall in the meet, while Memorial’s women placed fifth.
MUN earned 11 medals overall, 10 from the men’s side.
David Haines nabbed a silver medal in the 100-metre backstroke and a bronze in the 200-metre backstroke. Rookie Ryan George earned silver in the 50-metre backstroke. Freshman Nicholas Sparkes won a silver medal in the 200-metre butterfly. Leo Froude, another rookie, earned a bronze in the 400-metre freestyle.
Becca Dyer took second place in the 100-metre backstroke.
Memorial men’s and women’s volleyball teams were shutout on the road during the weekend.
MUN men lost interlock games in Quebec to Laval (3-1); Sherbrooke (3-1) and Montreal (3-0) to fall to 0-15 on the season.
Memorial finishes its season next weekend at the Field House against UNB Varsity Reds in AUS conference play.
The Lady Hawks lost 3-1 to Saint Mary’s Huskies Sunday after falling 3-2 Saturday in Halifax, N.S.
MUN is 3-9 on the season and takes on UNB Varsity Reds next weekend at the Field House.
