Newfoundland and Labrador rink drops two games
Tuesday proved tough for Heather Strong and her Newfoundland and Labrador rink at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian women’s curling championship in Montreal.
Strong and team of Laura Strong, Jessica Cunningham and Kathryn Cooper lost twice on Tuesday, dropping a 5-3 decision to Chelsea Carey’s Manitoba entry, then falling 8-6 to Andrea Crawford of New Brunswick.
Those results leaves Strong’s Bally Haly rink with a 4-3 record and in the middle of the standings in the 12-team event.
On tap for Newfoundland today are two Prairie rinks. Strong and Co. play Alberta’s Val Sweeting at 10:30 a.m. Newfoundland time and Saskatchewan’s Stefanie Lawton at 3:30 p.m.
These are especially key games because Alberta and Saskatchewan are teams Newfoundland is trying to catch in the standings.
