Heather Strong releases a stone during a Draw 11 match against Alberta's Val Sweeting Wednesday at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts national women's curling championship in Montreal. Strong and her team of Laura Strong, Jessica Cunningham and Kathryn Cooper fell 9-5 and then lost 7-3 to Saskatchewan's Stefanie Lawton.
The Heather Strong rink, Newfoundland and Labrador's team, dropped two games at the Scotties Tournament of Heart national women's curling championship in Montreal on Wednesday.
Strong was down 3-2 heading into the fifth end when Alberta's Val Sweeting scored three. The Alberta skip stole a deuce in six and a single in the seventh end. Strong picked up three of her own in the eighth, but it was too little, too late as she lost 9-5.
Things didn’t get any better in the Draw 12 in the afternoon when Strong dropped a 7-3 decision to Saskatchewan’s Stefanie Lawton. After trading singles in the first and second end, Lawton picked up deuce in four and stole two more in five to pull away.
The two losses drop Strong and her rink of Laura Strong, Jessica Cunningham and Kathryn Cooper to 4-5 heading into Thursday when they’ll meet British Columbia’s Kesa Van Osch in Draw 14 at 10:30 Newfoundland time and Team Canada’s Rachel Homan in Draw 16 at 9 p.m.
