N.L. champs IcePak open play this afternoon

Deer Lake will play host to the 2014 Atlantic midget (15-17 years) female hockey championship starting today at the Hodder Memorial Centre.

The host Western Warriors and the Central IcePak, the Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador representative, join the Pro Cresting Penguins from Nova Scotia, Kings County Kings of P.E.I. and New Brunswick’s Moncton Rockets in the five-team tournament.

The event gets under way at 1 p.m. today when the puck drops between the Penguins and Central Ice Pak. The championship game will be played 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

The winner will represent the region at the 2014 Esso Cup later this month in Stoney Creek-Hamilton, Ont. The tournament will be streamed online, at www1.bellaliant.net/communityone/.
