Vikings down Holy Heart Higlanders 5-1 in St. John’s High School Hockey League final opener
The Gonzaga Vikings drew first blood in the St. John’s High School Hockey League final Wednesday night, scoring three second-period goals in a 5-1 win over the Holy Heart of Mary Highlanders.

Game 2 in the best-of-five final goes at 8 o’clock on Friday night at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay.
At The Glacier in Mount Pearl Wednesday night, Adam Caines, Cody Barron and David Penney all had a goal and an assist for the Vikings. Matthew Caines and Patrick Nicolle also scored for the winners.
Grant Nolan had the lone goal for the Highlanders.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period.
Gonzaga jumped out to a 4-2 lead after two periods of play.
