Named to Canada’s sevens team for Commonwealth Games

Ciaran Hearn of Conception Bay South has been named to Canada’s sevens team that will play at the  Commonwealth Games  in Glasgow, Scotland later this month.

The 12-member Canadian squad is in a pool with Scotland, Barbados and four-time defending champion New Zealand.

The rugby sevens tournament runs over two days, with preliminary rounds the first day and finals on the second.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, being  held July 23 to Aug. 3, will be the largest-ever multi-sport event held on Scottish soil.

Hearn is also a member of Canada’s 15s team and was the recipient of Rugby Canada’s 2013 men’s 15s Player of the Year Award.

Hearn is in Victoria, B.C., where he plays for the Castaway Wanderers club, but occasionally suits up with The Rock for Canadian Rugby Championship play.
