SENIOR BASEBALL

Sean Janes scattered six hits and fanned three batters as Holy Cross Trinity Pub Crusaders defeated Metro Property Management Knights 6-1 in St. John’s Molson senior baseball Thursday night at Smallwood diamond.

Andrew Mercer (5IP, 6R, 7H, 7W, 5K) took the loss. Brandon Jackson finished up.

Dean Hammond and James Walsh each had two hits for Holy Cross.

INTERMEDIATE BASEBALL

Double Blues get by Vikings

Feildians scored four first-inning runs and held on to defeat Gonzaga Vikings 5-3 in St. John’s Molson intermediate baseball Thursday night at Smallwood diamond.

Dave Edwards (5IP, 3R, 7H, 3W, 1K) tossed the win with relief help from Ben Murphy.

Daniel Lopez, the first of three Vikings’ pitchers, took the loss on four runs and four hits over 2.1 innings.

Brad Roche had two hits in four at bats for the winners. Dan Connors had two hits for the losers.

SOFTBALL

Gosse gets career win 175 in senior league

Ward Gosse posted career win 175 to leave him two short of all-time leader Ross Rocker as NTV Hitmen edged Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs 2-1 in Molson St. John’s senior softball Thursday night at Lion’s Park.

Gosse, who also had two hits, gave up one hit and fanned 12 in picking up the win over Liam Myers.

 

The Bigs 12, Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians 4 (5 innings)

Starter Mark Power, with relief help from Donny King, hurled the win over Colby Murphy.

Stephen Jesso led The Bigs with three hits including a home run. Johnny Doyle and Joey Maynard also homered for the winners.

Brady Lewis and Jeff Conway had  two hits each for Junior Canadians.

Provincial U18 tourney this weekend

Four teams are entered in the Softball Newfoundland and Labrador Pepsi U18 boys’ tournament starting Saturday at Lion’s Park.

The teams include Conception Bay Central, Goulds, Newfoundland Bantams and Waterford Valley.

The tournament opens 9 a.m. Saturday with games all day.

Semifinal play is set for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday with the championship game scheduled for 1 p.m.
