Three provincial softball tournaments this weekend

There’s plenty of provincial softball activity this weekend with three tournaments on tap.

The championships include the Molson provincial intermediate men’s tournament at Lions Park in St. John’s and Ned Nugent Field in C.B.S., as well as the Pepsi boys’ under-14 provincial qualifier in Goulds and the U14 girls’ event in Placentia.

All three tournament open today and finish up Sunday.

Nine teams will compete in the intermediate championship, including Bay Roberts Coors Light, C.B.C. Molson, the C.B.S Storm and MJR Masonry in the Coors Division along with the C.B.C. Junior Canadians, Game on Gear, Goulds, Lafontaine Club Molson and PCI Roebothan McKay Marshall in the Molson Division.

The championship game is slated for 2 p.m. Sunday at Lions Park.

Six teams will take part in the U14 boys’ event: Bay Roberts, C.B.C., C.B.S., Goulds, Placentia and Southern Shore.

The championship game is set for  3 p.m. Sunday.

There are six teams involved in the U14 girls’ tournament: Bay Roberts, C.B.C., the C.B.C. Squirts, Placentia, Shea Heights and Southern Shore.

The championship game is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

4 p.m., Placentia vs Bay Roberts (Men’s)

6 p.m., Bay Roberts vs Southern Shore (Town Hall)

6 p.m., Goulds vs C.B.C. (Men’s)



Kirk’s homers all the offence 3Cheers needs

Ryan Kirk hit two solo home runs to pace 3Cheers Pub Bud Light to a 2-1 win oer NTV Hitmen in Molson St. John’s senior softball Thursday night at Lion’s Park.

Colin Walsh (7IP, 5H, 1W, 3K) tossed the win over Robbie Greene ((6IP, 2R, 4H, 2W, 4K).

Justin Gill had two hits for the Hitmen.


Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs 13, Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians 1 (5 innings)

Philip Corbett hit a grad slam home run to lead the first-place Bulldogs over the winless Junior Canadians in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

Daniel Dalton had three hits  for the winners while Corbett, Andrew Wade, Liam Myers, Blair Ezekiel an Shane Boland each had two hits.

Jeff Conway homered for Junior Canadians.

Blair Ezekiel (5IP, 1H, 1W, 13K) pitched the win, while Colby Murphy took the loss.

Feildians edge Mount Pearl U18s in Jubilee Trophy play

Feildians beat Mount Pearl U18 Terra Nova Motors 3-2 in Breen’s Jubilee Trophy women’s soccer Thursday night at Feildian Grounds.

Hannah Rivkin, Maxine Morris and Katie Greene each scored once for the winners.

Meaghan Coady and Samantha Power had the goals for Mount Pearl.
