Gosse earns one of many wins, his team pulls off a rare triple play in senior softball action

Ward Gosse recorded his 176th career win and his NTV Hitmen teammates turned the 11th triple play in senior league regular season history in a 10-9 extra-inning win over the The Bigs in Molson St. John’s senior softball Tuesday.

At Lions Park, Gosse (3IP, 5R, 6H, 1W, 5K) picked up the win in relief of starter Robbie Greene (5IP, 4R, 3H, 4W, 5K). He’s now one behind all-time leader Ross Crocker.

At the plate, Brad Ezekiel hit a pair of home runs, a solo blast and a two-run shot, and Fergus Griffiths scored twice and drove in three runs.

Losing pitcher Mike Noftall (7.1IP, 10R, 12H, 6W, 10K) had two RBIs, while Joey Maynard hit a two-run home run for The Bigs.

 

3Cheers Pub Bud Light 6, Kelly's Pub Junior Canadians 2

Jason Hill (7IP, 2R, 1W) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 17 and Isaac Power belted a two-run homer as 3Cheers won its eighth game in a row.

Adam Doyle and Ryan Kirk hit solo homers for the winners.

Brandon Pomroy hit a solo home run for the Junior Canadians, whose Colby Murphy (4IP, 5R, 8H, 0W, 3K) took the loss. Nick Pittman (1R, 1H, 1W, 0K) tossed three innings in relief.

Stone’s bases-clearing double keys big inning for Holy Cross

Gerry Stone hit a three-run double as part of a five-run third inning as Holy Cross Trinity Pub defeated the H.J. Bartlett Electric Storm 11-4 in St. John’s Molson senior baseball on Tuesday.

At Smallwood Park in Mount Pearl, Justin Crawley (7IP, 4R, 8H, 1W, 7K) pitched the win over Steve Bailey (6IP, 11R, 8H, 10W, 3K).

Daniel Hearn had two hits for the Storm.

A second game between the Feildians Ellsworth Group and Trapper John’s Shamrocks was tied at 2-2  when the game was called on account of curfew. It will resume at a later date.
