Keith Coady delivered a game-winning single in the eighth inning as West Side got by Glace Bay, N.S. Mets 5-4.
Sean Cleary (8IP, 4R, 6H, 3W, 12K) registered the win. Glenn Ormsby of Prince George, B.C., Tim Macumber of Newport, N.S., Mark Lewis, John Farrell and Ryan Boland also had the hits for Newfoundland.
In their tournament opener, Rob Schweyer of Simcoe, Ont. (6IP, 2R, 6H, 1HB, 1W, 6K) pitched the win in a 10-3 whitewash of Blackburn Transport of Nova Scotia.
Shane Boland and Edmonton’s Darren Box both had two hits for the Newfoundland team. Schweyer, Macumber, Ormsby, Lewis and Ryan Boland had singles.

3Cheers lost their tournament opener 4-2 to Kitchener, the defending champs, before rebounding with an 8-4 decision over Quebec in the nightcap.
