In defending champ Stacie Devereaux, 10-time champion Heather Strong and 2010 winner Shelley Nichols, the field includes the skips of the last nine winners. Devereaux and Strong are both curling out of Bally Haly, while Nichols will be on home ice at the Re/Max Centre. Beth Hamilton of Bally Haly and Stephanie Guzzwell of the St. John’s Curling Club, who are heading up the other two entries this week, haven’t skipped provincial Scotties champions, but both have been part of winning teams. Guzzwell was Devereaux’s third when the latter won her first title in 2011, while Hamilton was the second on Strong’s championship rink in 2005. The tournament will be a single round robin, with the top two teams advancing to the playoffs. The winner will represent Newfoundland at the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Montreal Feb. 1-9. All draws are open to the public, with the first set for 5 p.m. Wednesday. The playoffs will be Saturday, but could be extended into Sunday depending on tiebreakers, etc. telegram@thetelegram.com
