Buckle, Noseworthy share lead in provincial senior men's curling championship

Former world senior men’s champion Bas Buckle of Corner Brook scored the last five points of the game, including steals of single points in the eighth, ninth and 10th ends for a 9-7 win over clubmate Brian Bailey Wednesday night at the provincial senior men’s curling championship at the Caribou club in Stephenville.
The result keeps Buckle’s undefeated at 4-0 and tied for first place overall with Mark Noseworthy of the Re/Max Centre (St. John’s Curling Club).

Noseworthy also went to 4-0 Wednesday by beating Barry Edwards of Labrador City 8-5. Buckle and Noseworthy won’t face each other until Friday.

In other games in Wednesday’s fourth draw, Jeff Thomas of St. John’s defeated clubmate and two-time defending champion Glen Goss 8-2, while Danny Soucy of Stephenville doubled Bruce Penney of Corner Brook 8-4.

Thomas, Goss and Edwards are at 2-2, Soucy and Bailey are 1-3, and Penney is still looking for a first win.
