Andrew Symonds scored the winning point while holding the hammer in the final end to beat Ken Peddigew 4-3 in the 3-4 playoff game in Re/Max SuperLeague curling at the St. John’s Curling Club Wednesday night.
Peddigrew and his Quality Matters rink had registered the only multi-point end of the game by scoring two in the sixth end, but Symonds steals of single points in the fourth and fifth ends proved decisive.
Symonds and his IceBerg Vodka team advance to the semifinal next week to face Mark Noseworthy, whose Glanders and Hawk team finished second in the round-robin standings. Jeff Thomas and his Thomas Glass rink earned a bye to the final by finishing first overall.
The first-place winner will make $2,750.
