The Office of Alumni Affairs and Development at Memorial University has issued a call for nominations for the 2010 Alumni Tribute Awards.
The awards recognize a MUN graduate who can be described as an inspirational leader who has made invaluable contributions to the university, their community and the world at large.
"We made several changes to the nomination process. This year, technology allows us to make it really easy to nominate an outstanding graduate for an Alumni Tribute Award," said Lynn Cadigan, assistant director, Alumni Affairs.
To nominate a Memorial alumni for one of the four awards, a person can do so through the Memorial University website at www.munalum.ca.
"The link on the front page allows you to fill out a simple form and we'll take it from there," Cadigan said.
Nomination forms are also available at The Office of the Alumni Affairs and development at 20 Lambe's Lane or by calling toll free at 1-877-700-4081.
There are four different award categories. Alumna or Alumnus of the Year Award is the highest honour the association can bestow on a graduate and it recognizes exceptional individual achievements. The Outstanding Community Service Award acknowledges alumni who have given of themselves to improve the lives of people and their communities while the JD Eaton Award recognizes leadership and outstanding contribution to Memorial University. The Horizon Award honours young alumni who have realized extraordinary achievements before the age of 35.

So that makes them unworthy? Supporting your community university and the 17,000 students that attend is admirable. Most of this money supports scholarships which ensures post-secondary education is accessible and affordable.
How do you know these people were nominated by MUN alumni staff? Are you an alumnus?

Go view the winners of the past several years; statistically, nearly 75% of the winners were those who donated substantial amounts or were nominated by MUN Alumni Staff.

Greg, thank you for your comment. As Im sure you understand, due to privacy laws, I cannot release information about our donors. However, I can say that the statement that nearly 75% of the winners were those who donated substantial amounts or were nominated by MUN Alumni Staff is completely inaccurate. I can also say that the nomination process is open for anyone to submit a name and the winners are chosen by an alumni committee which, by design, does not include any staff of the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development. Neither Memorial University, nor the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development in any way votes on, or influences the choice of, winners. As an endnote, I encourage you and others to submit a nomination!
