The only people in Québec that are truly interested in separation from the greatest country in the world are members of the PQ and the Bloc.. they are making a killing holding phoney places in both governments and spouting their never ending rhetoric. Québecers know that it would be the ultimate disaster for us all.. get real Duceppe!

I agree with Francis. The next time the powers to be in Quebec schedule a referendum there should be another one held in the rest of Canada to coincide with theirs to see if the rest of Canada wants them to stay.

    Give us all a break.

We have to hear the same old song and dance over and over again.

We are all living in a country that is pretty well the envy of almost any other country in the world.

Why then do we have to continually listen to a parade of jokers coming out of Quebec proclaiming how their - distinct society - has been ruined somehow by being a part of Canada.

Quebecers - Be careful what you wish for - as they say the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence!

If Quebec wants to leave I say don't let the door hit you on the way out,and don't forget to turn out the lights. What makes them think they are so special?

Enough, already, with the weeping and gnashing of teeth by this wild looking man, his party, and also the Labradorians. If they want out, then they should get out and give the rest of us some peace. So many of us are just so sick of it all.

Mr Duceppe is a very cagey politician, unlike the big blow hard we have running nl.That's why we have double digit unemployment, while danny by tells us how well off we are,Separation??Cut off the Havalon and toe it out to sea as far as i'mconcerned

Lab12, you can dream on. Lab is part of NL and if we leave or stay your vote counts for but one. You can't leave without the entire population letting you. That's my land up there and you can't steal it without my permission. And you aren't going to get that permission from anyone.

Quebec will never separate from Canada unless all that money they get from the rest dries up. The rest of Canada supports all those wonderful institutions that Quebec loves to think are so advanced over the rest of Canada. If Canada were to stop paying, they'd be dead in the water. Should they separate they would straight sink in a world of debt. Call their bluff. If they still want to leave then they know poverty is around the corner. See what they do then? But I'd just as soon they leave and get rid of that anchor around our necks. Then the rest of us would probably split up and be better off as well.

As someone that lives in Quebec I apologize for this buffoon. What he seems as well most if not all in the PQ have forgotten is that democracy in Quebec does not exist. 2 times there was a vote on separation and they can't accept it.

Thankfully they are not the big player here anymore.

I just wish he would go away!

Don't be stupid Lab 12 -- Labrador is part of Newfoundland as is Corner Brook, Grand Falls , St. John's etc. That's like saying Cape Breton is leaving Nova Scotia or Vancouver Island is leaving British Columbia. You are so stupid.

Like Parizeau, Duceppe has a lot invested in Quebec personally. He cannot throw in the towel now as he has to show Quebecers that he is still fighting for thm. Sorry, fighting for the few who want to destroy Canada and who have this grandiose seperatist preoccuption that they will be given the key to heaven when the Nation Of Quebec is crowned! They do not realize that Duceppe will run soon like a frightened dog after a gunfire, tail between his legs and running.
He is not for Quebecers, he is for Gilles Duceppe and Friends.

He is such a buffoon stirring division for his own political ends. Newfoundland is a beautiful and essential part of the Canadian federation.

I've never met such nicer people in my life. As a Quebecer I deeply apologize that some of my provincial kin had the nerve to vote him in. A hypocrite who shouts down big oil yet his own stock investment is packed into Alberta's tar sands...

When's the next referendum? I want to be there to encourage the YES faction.
Quebec won't separate, where will they find another sugar daddy like Ottawa.
We don't have a political party with the balls to tell 'em to go!!

I've got news for Paul from Not Quebec. There are a lot of like minded Newfoundlanders and Labradorians like myself both inside and outside the province who feel seperation may be an option. Only difference is that if such a notion really takes off here, separation will be quick.

this is crazy, quebec has been after this for years so lets sit down and let them go,work out the details and do it but once they are gone ,there should be a law that says no-one deal with any quebec company ,for all the money it has cost just in referendums alone ,these people should be ashamed but they are not so what does that tell you,go go go and good luck

I wish they would separate, I'd help them pack their bags and help them on the Air FRANCE plane. Then the people who want to stay can finally run that province right. Thats what happens when we give refugees to much. They soon think they own the place or are entitled to it. They are more like a scar on our country then anything.

If Quebec were to seperate and take their share of federal debt, their new currrency would be worth less than the mexican peso.Duceppe is a desperate politican as their party is dying in Quebec.Do any one realise how many Quebecers come to Ontario every day to work and make a living.I know ,I am in construction and work with them every day. Most of them would Smack this clown if they could.

The people in Canada should vote to see if Quebec should separate. Billions of dollars would be saved. It is going to happen eventually so lets get on with it. I believe Canada is not truly a united country with a federal separatist party. A Canada - Quebec hockey rival would be fun. The cost of keeping Quebec in Canada is reaching a breaking point

  • Robert

First I would say Mr. Duceppe is not a clown. He happens to represent the views of the people who elected him. That is more then can be said for most politicians.
As a Newfoundlander I am not thrilled with the Canadian Confederation; it is difficult to disagree with Quebec's desire to find a better way.
No doubt the Upper Churchill deal leaves a sour taste in our mouths but we did sign the contract and that is very basic contract law. And our turn will come to do it right!
And finally I would be very concerned for basic democracy if Mr. Duceppe was not welcome to express his views. I was most pleased to see that MUN saw it the same way.

If Quebecers have the democratic right to separate, don't they also have the democratic right to choose to stay? They've been asked this question twice. And both times they voted democratically to remain in Canada. If Mr. Duceppe is such an advocate for the province's right to choose, why does he continue to refuse to acknowledge the democratic already made -- twice -- by the people of his province?
