The west coasts newest golf course is about to start taking shape.

With newspaper advertisements running regularly for general labourers, excavator operators, a project manager and an office manager, the developer of Timberland Golf Resort hopes to break ground on the project later this month.

Timberland, which is being developed by Brian Pike just east of Pasadena along the Trans-Canada Highway, will eventually feature 337 luxury executive homes and an 18-hole golf course over 700 acres of prime Humber Valley property.

Pike said equipment is on site and surveyors should clew up their work this week. Then it will be a matter of waiting for the ground to dry out a bit before starting work.

This first season of construction will focus primarily on the back nine of the golf course.

We will also clear out and grub the road right of ways and some preliminary drainage on that section so the site will be accessible, commented Pike. Then we will collect what data we need to do our civil design work for the water system and road design during late summer or early fall. Well get that back to our engineers to do design work during winter 08 and commence civil construction in the spring or early summer 08.

Pike hopes to have the back nine fairways cleared, grubbed, shaped and seeded by the fall.

The key thing is the deadline for seeding is around mid-September, he said. What we dont have seeded by then wont be seeded until next spring. Weather will be a big determining factor.

If all goes well, the first golfer should be teeing up on the back nine by mid-summer 2009.

Next spring, construction of the first homes should begin. Of course, water systems and power must first be installed. Work on the resorts clubhouse complex should also begin next year and clew up around the same time the golf course opens for play.

Pike said the majority of people working on the resort development this summer will be contractors and subcontractors. At the height of construction during the project, he estimated between 250 and 300 people could be working.

Recently, Pasadenas town council announced its investigating the possibility of expanding its eastern boundary to include all of Timberland Golf Resort, which is currently partially included within the municipal boundary.

I dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing at this point in time because we dont know what theyre looking for yet, Pike said. I believe, if its done properly, it can be a good working partnership between the both of us.

Timberlands primary market is Europe and an office has been opened in the United Kingdom. According to the resorts website, 12 lots have been sold already and another 10 have been reserved.

To date, we have met our target expectations and were looking forward to another good year, said Pike.
