Brad Gushue and Heather Strong will look to make strong showings as the home teams at the Tylenol Players' Championship (TPC), April 16-20 at Mile One Centre in St. John's.
The event, the eighth and final leg in the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series, brings 32 of the top ranked teams from the Canadian Team Ranking System (CRTS): 16 men's rinks and 16 women's.
Challenging Gushue, Mark Nichols, Dave Noftall and Chris Schille, will be rinks skipped by Edmonton's Kevin Koe, four-time TPC winner Wayne Middaugh (1996, 1999, 2001, 2002) and 2007-2008 Brier champ Kevin Martin.
Martin, who captured the BDO Classic Canadian Open in Quebec and The National in Port Hawkesbury, has won a record five players' championship and returns in 2008 as the defending champion.
Strong faces a tough field on the women's side, including Scotties winner Jennifer Jones, Shannon Kleibrink, Kelly Scott and Sherry Middaugh, each winning one of the five events in the Grand Slam series.
The eight Grand Slam events are crucial to the qualifying process for the 2010 Olympic Trials. Teams can earn points based on their performance that will help secure a berth at the Olympic trials in 2009.
Tickets for the TPC can be purchased online at www.admission.com or by visiting the Mile One Box office.

Quick, somebody call Danny (make sure he's pulled over first), there has to be a road or two around that need to be renamed.
