Eight-year-old April Walters of Outer Cove, a Grade 3 at St. Francis of Assisi Elementary school, participates in the Family Literacy Day activities at the College of the North Atlantic on Prince Philip Drive in St. John's Wednesday morning. The event was sponsored by the Aliant Pioneer Volunteers and Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador. The school's gymnasium was transformed into a miniature golf course. Each "golf hole" was set-up with a literacy activity run by the adult volunteers for the approximately 400 children who took part. The event was held in conjunction with Peter Gzowski International golf tournament being held today at the Bally Haly golf course. - Photo by Joe Gibbons /The Telegram
