The provincial government announced today that Jan. 15 is the deadline for submissions for the 2010 Arts and Letters Awards program.
The program has for nearly 60 years encouraged and supported the creative process in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Prizes are awarded in two divisions, junior and senior, and in a number of categories within the literary arts, visual arts and musical composition.
Budget 2009: Building on Our Strong Foundation, provided an additional $25,000 to administer the program, bringing the total annual budget to $135,000.
The Arts and Letters gala awards presentation is scheduled to take place April 17, 2010, at The Rooms. Total prize money for this year's program is just over $46,000; with 36 awards of $1,000 each to be awarded in the senior division, and 35 awards of $250 each in the junior division. Prize money awarded for the prestigious Percy Janes First Novel Award is $1,500.
