Clarenville, NL -

The battle for the Herder Memorial Trophy has begun.

Game 1 of the Telegram Herder Memorial Trophy Championship Series between the Conception Bay North CeeBee Stars and the Clarenville Caribous is underway at the new Clarenville Events Centre.

Prior to puck drop, the West Coast Senior Hockey League handed out some of its annual hardware. Caribous' captain Dustin Russell accepted the league's president's trophy and starting goaltendr Jason Churchill accepted the league's MVP award.

Ten minutes in, the Caribous took and early 1-0 lead on a goal from Chris Mooney. The lead lasted just 18 seconds as the CeeBees' captain Matthew Thomey equalized.
