Clarenville, NL -
The Conception Bay North CeeBee Stars head to the dressing room after 20 minutes with a 2-0 lead in Game 2 of the Telegram Herder Memorial Trophy Championship Series at the Clarenville Events Centre.
The six-time Avalon East Senior Hockey League champs opened the scoring at the 12:53 mark when Paul Brown broke into the Caribous' zone and put a puck on net. Caribous keeper Jason Churchill was there to make the first save, but Jonathan Duffett shoveled the rebound beneath him for a 1-0 lead.
The Bous thought they had tied it up a few minutes later when a Grant Kenny point shot rebounded into the air and was directed in by Ryan Lauzon. The ref immediately waved it off indicating it was batted in by Lauzon's hand.
With time expiring, Mike Dyke took the same route into the Caribous' zone, but made the pass to a streaking Steve Greeley who potted his first of the Herder final a split second before the end of the frame.
Both squads' special teams got quite a workout to start the game as much of the period was played on the powerplay, penalty kill or 4 on 4. However despite countless man advantages, neither team was able to capitalize.
Shots in the first were 16-9 in favour of the CeeBees.
