For the third straight year, the Conception Bay North CeeBee Stars dropped the opening game of the Telegram Herder Memorial Championship Series.
Under three minutes in, the Ceebees Mike Dyke made a costly mistake when he failed to clear the zone on a pass broken up by the Cataracts' Paul Whelan who in turn passed it out front to a wide open Andre Gill who easily beat Freddy Diamond five-hole to give the Cats a 3-2 win.
Shots in the final frame were 1-1. Final shots on goal were 31-23 for the Cats.
