The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts can celebrate a Herder Memorial Trophy win in front of a hometown crowd with a victory in Game 4 of the Telegram Herder Memorial Championship Series Saturday.
The Cats took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven provincial senior hockey championship with a decisive 8-2 win over the Eastlink CeeBee Stars in Game 3 Friday at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts came out flying in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Joe jumping out to a 3-0 first period-lead on goals from Mike Sibley, Chad Earle and Cody Roach.
The Cats continued to dominate play in the second frame as Greg Hoffe scored to make it 4-0. Paul Roebothan made it 5-0 with near the ten minute mark of the second, forcing Freddy Diamond from the CeeBees’ net. Badger native Paul Whalen put the Cataracts up 6-0 before the frame.
The CeeBees finally got on the board at 7:27 of the third with a powerplay goal from Matthew Thomey. Ryan Delaney brought the CeeBees within four 31 seconds later, also on the man advantage.
Grand Falls-Windsor reclaimed their six-goal lead on late markers from Matt Quinn and Dave Philpott.
Game 4 gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
