Knights lead Privateers 2-1 after first at Telus Cup

St. John's open scoring, but London take lead before period expires

The London Junior Knights' Conor Carson scored with 35 seconds to play in the first period and lead the St. John's Pennecon Privateers 2-1 at the Telus Cup national major midget hockey championships at Mile One Centre in St. John's.

The Privateers' Justin O'Reilly opened the scoring when he potted his second of the tournament near the 10-minute mark.

London's Mike Mandarelli tied the game at 1-1 four minutes later.

London, the home team tonight, outshot St. John's 16-9 in the first period.
