Apologies for the delay in posting. Techincal problems and the need to bang out something for our print edition combined to thwart me, but you don't want to hear about my problems.
Especially when I should be telling you about those of the St. John's IceCaps, who lost 6-2 to the visiting Norfolk Admirals Friday night in American Hockey League play at Mile One Centre.
This was the case of the IceCaps not be very good on this night as they took on a skilled and energetic visiting team. Given those factors, the final score was to be expected.
Tyler Johnson and Trevor Smith each scored twice for the visitors who got three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead. Carter Ashton and captain Mike Angelidis also scored for the visitors.
Paul Postma, on a power play, and Carl Klingberg, with a shorthanded marker, tallied for St. John's (11-3-3), which lost for the first time in seven games.
Shots on goal were 31-28 in favour of Norfolk, with Eddie Pasquale in the St. John's net and Jarsoslav Janus tending goal for the Admirals, the farm team of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
After what was a pure stinker of a game -- easily their worst of the year, partly in effort, mainly in execution -- the IceCaps at least have a chance to air out Mile One Saturday night in a rematch with the Admirals (10-6-1). Game time is 7:30 p.m.
