St. John’s IceCaps' defenceman Paul Postma has been named to the American Hockey League's 2011-12 first all-star team.

Postma has 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 points with the Atlantic Division champion IceCaps. That's one point shy of his career high he set last year as a member of the Chicago Wolves, but his totals for this year came in 14 fewer games. Due to injuries — Postma is one of 11 IceCaps in the infirmary this week — and a three-game call-up to the parent Winnipeg Jets earlier this season, Postma has appeared in only 55 of the IceCaps 71 games  to date.

This is the second all-star honour of the season for Postma, a 23-year-old native of Red Deer, Alta. He made his second consecutive appearance in the AHL's all-star game in January.

The AHL's year-end all-star teams were selected through a vote by coaches, players and media in each of the league’s 30 member cities. Postma is one of five players from the league's Eastern Conference named to the first team.
