The St. John's IceCaps will face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the second round of the American Hockey League's Calder Cup playoffs.
The Penguins advanced to the best-of-seven matchup against the IceCaps by beating the Hershey Bears 2-1 Saturday night in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., in the fifth and deciding game of their Eastern Conference quarter-final.
The IceCaps booked their spot by knocking off the Syracuse Crunch in four games, topped off by a 4-3 OT win at Mile One Friday night.
As the second seed in the conference, St. John's will have home-ice advantage against fourth seed Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The first two games of the series will be played Tuesday and Wednesday at Mile One Centre before it moves to northeastern Pennsylvania for Games 3, 4 and 5, the latter if necessary. The games in Wilkes-Barre are set for Sat., May 5, Sun, May 6 and Tues, May 8. If the series goes longer, Mile One would be site of Games 6 and 7 on Fri., May 11 and Sat., May 12.
In their four-game regular-seson series with the Penguins, St. John's went 2-1-1, with neither side recording a home-ice win.
Whoever emerges from the series will face the winner of the other Eastern Confrence semifinal, which features the Norfolk Admirals and Connecticut Whale.
