Wilkes-Barre, Pa. — That didn't last long.

Ben Maxwell scored just 27 seconds into overtime to give the St. John's IceCaps their second extra-period victory in as many nights Sunday in Wilkes-Barre, a 3-2 win that gives them a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven AHL Eastern Conference semifinal.

The IceCaps had won 2-1 in OT on Saturday,

Game 5 is Tuesday night in Wilkes-Barre, where St. John's will have a chance to wrap up the series.

The game started terribly for the IceCaps, with the Penguins up 2-0 less than seven minutes into the first period after getting goals from Colin McDonald and Eric Tangradi on their first two shots on the St. John's net.

But The IceCaps persevered and got second-period tallies from Derek Meech — on a power play — and Maxime Macenauer to tie it up.

It stayed that way until Maxwell finished up pressing back-to-back overtime shifts for St. John's by shoving a shot past Penguins' goalie Brad Thiessen. The opportunity came after a heads-up play by defenceman Brett Festerling to hold the puck at the blueline and get it toward the crease.

Thisessen faced 29 shots, while Eddie Pasquale of St. John's dealt with 16. Jason King had two assists for St. John's.
