Eric O'Dell among latest four cut from Winnipeg's camp, sent to IceCaps'

The Winnipeg Jets trimmed their training camp roster by five more players Tuesday, sending four forwards to the American Hockey League’s St. John’s IceCaps and returning junior-aged defenceman Josh Morrissey, Winnipeg’s 2013 first-round draft pick, to the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.

St. John’s IceCaps training camp attendees listen to instructions from head coach Keith McCambridge (far left) at Mile One Centre in St. John’s on Monday. The IceCaps have 36 players in camp this week, but that number will likely grow as more players are cut from the Winnipeg Jets camp.

The four sent to St. John’s include centre Eric O’Dell, the IceCaps’ leading scorer last season, promising young centre Adam Lowry, winger Ivan Telegin and veteran Andrew Gordon, who must clear waivers before the assignment is official.

The move leaves 27 players on Winnipeg’s training camp list. The Jets must get down to a 23-man roster before the NHL season starts Monday. It would appear they will need to cut one goalie, one or two defencemen, and one or two forwards before then.

Players who were with the IcCaps at the end of last season but remain in Winnipeg’s camp include centre Patrice Cormier, defenceman Zach Redmond and goalie Eddie Pasquale.

Meanwhile, the IceCaps have 36 players in training camp, including 25 who are under some sort of contract (NHL or AHL). Final cuts for St. John’s are expected at the conclusion of the Mary’s Cup pre-season tournament Sunday. The IceCaps are facing the Syracuse Crunch in the tourney, which involves games at Mile One Centre in St. John’s on Thursday night, the Clarenville Events Centre Saturday afternoon and Mile One on Sunday afternoon.

Here’s a rundown of which players are where after Tuesday’s moves.
