St. John's junior league: Caps edge Celtics on Doyle’s third-period tally

Alex Doyle’s goal with about eight minutes to play in the game gave defending champion Hickman Chrysler Caps a 2-1 win over BK Services Celtics in Penney Kia St. John’s Junior Hockey League play Sunday at Jack Byrne Arena

Zack Cooper had the other goal for the winners.

Kory Waterman scored for Celtics.

Riley Edwards set up both goals to earn Jungle Jim’s Player of the game for the winners.

St. John’s took nine of the game’s 14 penalties.

Celtics led 1-0 after the first period and the teams were tied 1-1 after two periods.

St. John’s goalie Coady Edwards got the win over goalkeeper Alex Riggs, who was chosen the Celtics’ player of the game.



Caps 10, MoorFrost CBN Stars 3

Player of the game Garrett Murphy scored twice and set up two goals for the Caps at Twin Rinks.

Ryan Hawco and Justin Walsh each scored twice for the Caps who led 2-0 after the first period and 6-3 after two frames.

Riley Evans, Ryan Walsh, Lee Gulliver, Josh Thornhill each scored once. Joey Trenholm had two assists.

Nick Noseworthy scored twice for Stars to earn his team’s player of the game award. Philip Russell scored once.

Each team had 37 shots on goal.


Avalon Roebothan McKay Marshall Capitals 4,

CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades 2

Matthew Barrett, Matthew Payne, Michael Cole and Ben Cleary, the latter into an empty net, each scored once for the Capitals who outshot the Renegades 36-35 at Goulds Arena.

Luke Tilley and Brandon O’Neil replied for Renegades.

Players of the game were Capitals’ goalie Doug Pippy and Renegades netminder Nathan Gillard.

Next league action is 8 p.m. Tuesday when Renegades take on BK Services Celtics at Jack Byrne Arena.
