Ryan Perks scored once and set up two others to pace the first-place St. John’s Hickman Automotive Group Caps to a 4-2 victory over the Trinity-Placentia I.J. Smith Flyers in the Penney Kia St. John’s Junior Hockey League Sunday at Whitbourne Stadium.
Joey Trenholm, Zach Hill and Justin Walsh each scored once for the winners.
Cody Barrett and Brett Kennedy replied for the Flyers.
Goaltender Scott Bray was selected the Jungle Jim’s player of the game for the visitors, while Kennedy got the nod for the home side.
C.B.R. 4, Celtics 0 (Sunday)
At the Jack Byrne Arena, Mitch Puddister stopped 35 shots as the Assante Wealth Management Renegades blanked BK Services Celtics.
Mitch King scored twice for the winners. League scoring leader Jonathon Ralph added one goal and one assist as did Steve LeDrew.
Puddister and Celtics’ goaltender Alex Riggs were named players of the game.
St. John’s 7, Southern Shore 3 (Saturday)
At Twin Rinks, player of the game Riley Edwards scored four goals as the Caps defeated the visiting C&W Offshore Breakers.
Garrett Murphy, Perks and Walsh had the other goals for the winners.
Peter Kavanagh, Adam Walsh and Manise Kendall scored for the Breakers who outshot the Caps 43-38.
The Caps had a 2-1 lead after the first period and carried a 3-1 advantage into the third.
Mitchel Martin got the player of the game nod for the Breakers.
C.B.R. 4, Mount Pearl 3 OT (Saturday)
At the Robert French Memorial Stadium in Kelligrews, Mitch King scored the overtime winer at 4:29 for the Renegades in the team’s win over Mount Pearl Marks Dakota Wild.
The Wild had a 2-1 lead after the first and a 3-2 lead after the second.
The Renegades’ Brandon O'Neill scored in the third to force the overtime period. Stephen LeDrew and Curtis Walsh had the other goals for the winners.
Chad Thompson, Ian MacIntyre and Kyle Aucoin scored for the Wild who outshot the Renegades 44-37.
King and Aucoin were selected players of the game.
Avalon 9, C.B.N. 4 (Saturday)
At Goulds Arena, the Roebothan McKay and Marshall Capitals scored five unanswered goals in the third period to beat the MoorFrost Stars.
The teams were tied at 3-3 after the first period and 4-4 after two.
Matthew Barrett, Michael Cole, Zack Tucker, Nick Harte, Alex Robbins, Ben Cleary and Kristian Husk scored for the Capitals.
Jonathan Tozer and Evan Francis each had two goals for the Stars.
Cole and Tozer were named players of the game.
Celtics 4, Breakers 1 (Friday)
At the Southern Shore Arena, Chris Blackwood scored all four goals to pace the Celtics to their first win of the season with a victory over Breakers.
Justin David scored for the Shore.
Blackwood and David were named players of the game.
C.B.N. 3, Trinity-Placentia 2
At Bay Arena, two goals in the third period gave the Stars the win over the Flyers.
Evan Francis, Josh LeDrew and Jonathan Tozer scored for the Stars who outshot the Flyers 29-27.
Dylan Cook and Curtis March had the goals for the Flyers.
LeDrew and March were selected players of the game.
