St. John's IceCaps centreman Kyle MacKinnon is watched closely by Bridgeport Sound Tigers forward Matthew Pistilli as he skates in front of goalie Kevin Poulin during AHL action Saturday night at Mile One Centre.
It was the eighth straight win for the IceCaps, who improve to 36-19-1-3 on the season. It was the fourth straight loss for the Sound Tigers, who had strung together a seven-game win streak recently.
Lowry, a 20-year-old rookie from Calgary, has 15 goals on the season. He took a pass from Patrice Cormier and broke in alone on Kevin Poulin, beating the busy Bridgeport goalie glove side.
Poulin faced 37 shots Saturday night after turning aside 36 shots Friday.
Andrew Gordon scored his 19th goal of the year and Eric O’Dell, with his 16th, also scored for the IceCaps. Scooter Vaughan and Aaron Ness had the Bridgeport goals.
Michael Hutchinson made 15 saves in the IceCaps’ net.
St. John’s now gets ready for the Portland Pirates who come to town for games Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
