The Avalon Roebothan McKay Marshall Capitals punched their ticket to the Penney Kia St. John’s Junior Hockey League semifinals Saturday with a 7-2 victory over the Trinity Placentia IJ Smith Building Centre Flyers at Goulds Arena.
The Capitals took the best-of-seven series 4-1.
The Capitals will now face the winner of the CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades versus C.B.N. MoorFrost Stars series which is tied 3-3. Game 7 of that series is set for 7:15 p.m. tonight at Bay Arena.
Jungle Jim’s player of the game Bobby Squires scored twice to pace Avalon. Singles came from John Charles Snow, Matthew Caines, Andrew Paul, Zack Tucker and Alex Powell.
Justin Pinksen and Dakota Seaward replied for the Flyers.
Sixteen-year-old Tyler Wrice made 38 saves to earn the player of the game nod for the losers.
Avalon took eight of the game’s 14 penalties.
The other semifinal features the Southern Shore C&W Offshore Breakers and the St. John’s Hickman Automotive Group Caps. The start of that series has yet to be announced.
C.B.N. 4, CBR 2 (Saturday)
Player of the game Cody Batten scored twice and set up one goal for the Stars who forced a seventh and deciding match with the victory at Robert French Memorial Stadium in Kelligrews.
Devon Whalen and Michael Andrews had the other goals for the winners who outshot the losers 42-41.
Goalie Mitchell Puddester was named player of the game for Renegades.
C.B.N. 5, CBR 3 (Friday)
At Bay Arena, Robert Earle, Batten, Whalen, Brady Barrett and Colby Murphy each scored once for the Stars.
Greg Beaumaster, Jon Ralph and Evan Lockyer had the goals for the Renegades who were outshot 37-26.
Whalen and Puddester were selected players of the game.
