It will be the St. John’s Caps and Northeast Eagles in the Avalon East Senior Hockey League final for a third straight year.
The Toyota Plaza Caps, two-time defending champs, completed a sweep of the Bell Island Family Drug Mart Blues with a 7-3 win in Game 3 Sunday night at Rogers Bussey Arena to close out the best-of-five series in three straight.

Jon Caul and Mark Rideout both scored twice for the winners, whose Kyle Downer stopped 26 of 29 shots faced. Mike Druken, Jacob Lewis, and Cody Squires added singles for the Caps.

David Byrne scored all three Blues’ goals with Daniel Noftle drawing assists on each. Evan Giles was peppered with 41 shots in net for Bell Island.

The best-of-seven final gets underway next Friday night, 8 o’clock, at the Jack Byrne Arena, with Game 2 set for Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at Rogers Bussey.

In the six head-to-head meetings during the regular season, the Eagles won on five occasions.

Its the eagles turn to win this year, after being close the last two years, and lets not forget the incident where this years leading scorer was fish hooked by a St. John's player named above. After dominating this league with an 18-2 record and sweeping the Southern Shore Breakers, look for them to sweep the Caps 4 straight. Lacking a goaltender the last few years, this year they have Brons Dawe who like someone commented, hasn't lost a game all year. Two new fellas they got coaching aren't stunned either. A look at the AESHL website shows that the Eagles scored 125 goals and had only 61 against in 20 games. Versus St. John's they were 5-1 and outscored them 29-17. Predicting a sweep.

Get it right guys, this series was not a sweep. Bell Island won game three 4-1. Like 'Bout Time' said, do some research and promote the league.

One of the first times the year you put something online about this league. And you do it when St. John's wins? Northeast Eagles were 18-2 and you've written nothing about them? They have a goalie who went undefeated this year, nothing on that either? A goalie that spent10-11 years as a backup in CBN in the NLSHL, who you report on weekly. Give this league some ink. Promote the finals, much the same as you do the Provincial Sr. league and Jr. leagues. This league has been around a lot longer than both.
