Provincial major midget league: Kings and IcePak split

Nathan Ellsworth scored three goals to pace Western Colemans Kings to a 5-4 victory over the Central IcePak Sunday at the Lewisporte Stadium in the provincial major midget hockey final.
The best-of-seven series is tied 1-1.

The IcePak won the series opener 7-3 Saturday night in Lewisporte.

The next three games are slated for the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook. Game 3 is scheduled for Friday night at 7:30, while Game 4 is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Game 5 is Sunday 1:30 p.m.

Mike Lundrigan and Jalen Gillard also scored for the defending champion Kings in Game 2.

Adam Dawe had a two-goal game for the hometown IcePak, while Jordan Freake and Jordan Maher scored singles.

Kyle Champion had two goals for IcePak in the series opener.

Michael  Mason, Jordan Freake, Jordan Maher, Josh Fitzgerald and Shayne Dominie rounded out the scoring for the IcePak, who earned a berth in the final by beating Tri-Pen Osprey in five games in one of two semifinal matchups.

Nathan Ellsworth, Tommy Ryan and Jordan Richards scored for the Kings, who advanced to the final with a sweep of the St. John’s Maple Leafs in the other semifinal series.
