Breakers shutout Caps, one win from junior hockey finals berth

The Southern Shore C&W Offshore Breakers are one win away from advancing to the Penney Kia St. John’s Junior Hockey League final after blanking the St. John’s Hickman Automotive Group Caps 2-0 Tuesday night at the Mobile Arena.

Game 5 in the best-of-seven series, with the Breakers up 3-1, goes eight o’clock tonight at Twin Rinks.

Justin David and Daniel Chafe had the goals for the Breakers who were outshot 39-31.

The Breakers led 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after two frames.

Goaltenders Josh Carey of the Breakers and Scott Bray of the Caps were named Jungle Jim’s players of the game.

 

CBR 4, Avalon 3 (OT)

In the other semifinal, the CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades got two goals each from Alex Tulk and Brandon O’Neill to beat the Avalon Roebothan McKay Marshall Capitals in overtime at the Goulds Arena.

The victory gives the Renegades a 3-2 lead in the series with Game 6 set for 7 p.m. Friday at Robert French Memorial Stadium in Kelligrews.

Bobby Squires had two goals for the Capitals who outshot the Renegades 45-38. Michael Cole scored once.

Mitch Puddester got the win in net for Renegades. Doug Pippy was in goal for the Capitals.

The players of the game were O’Neill and Squires.
