St. John's beats Albany 2-1 on last-minute goal

Defenceman Ben Chiarot scored with 23 seconds remaining in the contest to give the St. John's IceCsps a 2-1 win over the Albany Devils in the opening game of their best-of-five American Hockey League Eastern Conference quarter-final Friday night in Albany, N.Y.

Game 2 is Saturday night in Albany, N.Y., with an 8:30 p.m NT start time,

Zach Redmond and Andrew Gordon drew assists on Ben Chiarot's shot from the point.

Eric O'Dell of St. John's opened the scoring with the teams playing four-on-four in the first period. Joe Whitney tied it for Albany on a power play early in the second.

Goalie Muchael Hutchinson made 25 saves for the IceCaps, who had 32 shots on the Devils' Keith Kinkaid.
