Evely leads Bigs to walk-off win

Liam Myers struck out 10 in a complete-game performance and Jon Kelly drove in a couple of runs as the Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs downed the Kelly’ Pub Junior Canadians 6-4 in Molson St. John’s senior men’s fastpitch play Sunday at Lions Park.
With the win, the Bulldogs remain undefeated through seven games.

Myers (6H, 2W) got the decision over Colby Murphy (4IP, 5R, 5H, 5W, 1K).

Joel Whelan (1R, 1H, 1W) pitched the last three innings for the Junior Canadians, who were playing their first senior game of the season.

Myers helped himself offensively with a couple of hits, while Jeff Conway of the Junior Canadians was the game’s top batter, going 3-for-3 — including a solo homer — and scoring twice.

In Sunday’s other game, Geoff Evely hit a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score winning pitcher Johnny Doyle from third base to give The Bigs the win.

It was part of a big day four Evely, who had a part in all his team’s runs, going 3-for-five, including a triple, while scoring twice and registering four RBIs.

Doyle (1H, 2WB, 2K) picked up the decision with four innings of scoreless relief work after taking over for starter Donny King (3IP, 6R, 8H, 1W, 1K). 3Cheers got Darrell Walsh on second base with no outs in the top of the seventh, but Doyle retired the next three batters in order.

Aaron Whelan had three hits, while Shane Kelly had two hits and scored twice for the winners.

Doug Marshall (12H, 5W, 4K) pitched from start to finish for 3Cheers, which got two hits and two runs from Liam O'Keefe and a couple of hits from Kris Abbott.
