Three forwards had been restricted free agents

Updated to show AHL salaries of Albert and Cormier

Three St. John’s IceCaps forwards who had been restricted free agents have been signed to one-year, two-way contracts by the parent Winnipeg Jets.
The deals with Eric O’Dell, John Albert an Patrice Cormier — who can all play centre or on the wing — were announced Saturday by the Jets.

All three have played with the IceCaps since the team was established in St. John's in 2011.

With their signing, and that of winger Carl Klingberg earlier this week, defenceman Ben Chiarot is the only remaining IceCaps restricted free agent who has yet to sign with the Jets.

O’Dell, primarily a centre in St. John’s, basically split the last regular season between the Jets and American Hockey League’s IceCaps picking up seven points, including three goals, in 30 games with Winnipeg, and 42 points (17G, 25A) in 42 games with St. John’s.

The 24-year-old’s new contract will pay him $650,000 annually in the NHL and $100,000 in the AHL.

Cormier and Albert also saw time in the National Hockey League in 2013-14.

The 24-year-old Cormier registered three assists in nine games with the Jets last season, and nine goals and 17 assists in 61 games with the IceCaps.

His new deal will pay him $625,000 in the NHL and $90,000 in the AHL.

Albert, 25, also appeared in nine games with Winnipeg last season, scoring a goal. In 63 games with the IceCaps, he had a team-leading 28 goals — including six shorthanded tallies, most in the AHL — and 17 assists.

His new contract is worth $585,000 at the NHL level and $85,000 annually in the minors.

According to capgeek.com, O’Dell, Cormier and Klingberg will be subject to waivers if assigned to the minors by the Jets, while Albert, whose new contract is his second one-year NHL deal after beginning his pro career on AHL deals, is waiver-exempt for one more season.
