If Mayor Andy Wells decides to leave city hall before September, a byelection will be called and residents of St. John's will take to the polls to elect a new mayor.
Rumours have already begun circulating about who is planning to run against Deputy Mayor Dennis O'Keefe for the mayor's seat - some people being mentioned are city councillors, others prominent members of the community.
Who will be the next to run St. John's? The Telegram dispels rumours and speaks to those who are planning to run about what their platform will be in Friday's edition.

Here's an idea to ensure that this does not happen again. A Mayor who accepts the job must also accept the fact that he or she must complete the time frame as well, unless of course something happens to cause an impossibility to do so. For instance sickness, an unusual accident, and other such happenings. But certainly not to be available for any other job the Mayor decides he would like. He signs on for 4 years. So be it.
